The meeting was called to order by Charisse Vickerie (PTO Delegate) at 6:05 PM, with 81 participants in attendance.
 

Highlights

• Introductions: All executive board members present introduced themselves. President Chris Randolph and Membership Chair Lynn Frazier were noted as absent.

• Finance Report (April, Treasurer):

  • Account balance: $28,911 (as of 8/29/25)

  • Principal’s Account: $11,263

  • Proposed PTO budget: $17,649, showing a temporary deficit to be covered by fundraising.

• Budget Proposals:

  • Field Day: $5,000 (increase from $3,500)

  • VITS Events: $4,000 (expand dances/socials, add Sneaker Ball)

  • Appreciation: Increase to support monthly staff recognition

  • Administration: Increase for compliance, tech (Zoom), and parent socials

  • Result: Budget approved with 30 “yes” votes.

• Membership: Drive underway; pizza party incentive for top class. Paid membership required to vote.

• Fundraising: Upcoming Read-a-Thon (Sept 22), Scholastic Book Fair (Sept 24–Oct 3), and Holiday Shop. Volunteers needed.

• Principal’s Report (Dr. Hogue):

  • Enrollment over 560 students.

  • Chromebooks no longer provided by county; families must secure devices.

  • Events: Pep Rally, Freestyle Friday dance-off, Camp Schmidt (5th grade), JA Finance Park (7th grade).

  • Weekly Smore newsletter is primary communication tool.

• Upcoming Events:

  • Books on the Ground – Sept 8 (food trucks, DJ, face painting, fingerprinting).

  • Back-to-School Nights – Sept 24 (Elementary), Sept 25 (Middle).

Action Items

1. Follow up on LaKeisha’s transportation concerns (escalate to BOE if needed).

2. Share PTO grade liaison list in GroupMe.

3. Create SignUpGenius links for volunteer opportunities (Books on the Ground, Book Fair).

4. Coordinate additional food trucks with Kenny Smith for Books on the Ground.
